WELCOME TO YOUR ESL CLASS

Hello! And Welcome!
to your English class

My name is Suzanne Lord and
I’m going to be your English teacher and coach!
I’ve been teaching for 44 years and I LOVE it!
So … my job is to make learning English                           EASY and FUN

In this short introduction I will tell you about my views and what I think is important for you to know as a student or learner of English as a second language (ESL).

Let’s start with the question “WHY … English?” Well as everyone knows, nowadays the world is becoming smaller and smaller because of technology and the accessibility of travel. Communication with our ‘fellow earthlings’ is as easy as pie! And a touch away with the internet, the world wide web WWW.

First, just let me say this: you need TIME and PATIENCE. You cannot be rushed. TAKE IT EASY!
Second, you need words to make this happen! Your knowledge of VOCABULARY is the most important thing at the beginning. You must start with a strong foundation or base, and slowly build on it, DAY BY DAY. It must become a part of your life.
Third, PRACTICE. Ever heard of the word COMMITMENT … and the expression, “Practice makes perfect!” Daily practice is so very important just like it is with your physical needs. Do not worry about making mistakes, the more you make them the more you learn from them. It just like riding a bicycle: sometimes you fall off the bike … so what do you do next, you get right back on and try again!
Fourth, do not look at English as just another school subject! Your ATTITUDE towards English and how you view the learning process will decide how well you progress and learn.
“No pain; no gain.”
Fifth is CONFIDENCE! You will get there! Practice every day and be confident. You will find that the more you use English, the better your use of the language will become, and the more confident you will become then, the more you will want to use it! Make it a rule to tell yourself: « I CAN DO IT! »
Not just once or twice, but every time you speak!

Learning English should and can be FUN!
I hope that you discover how much fun it can be!
And as a teacher, I hope I can communicate to you
how much fun it is also for me to show you!
Let’s make it a pleasurable and enjoyable experience
for both, you and I.
